Talking Beer, Bowling, and Gentrification in Pittsburgh

On tonight’s episode of BEERLAND, our host Meg Gill ventures out to Pittsburgh. In this deleted scene, she visits the Arsenal bar and bowling alley. “We’re the only bar on the block that lets you drink, then gives you a 14-pound rock to throw around,” Greg Constantino, longtime bartender of this 30-year neighborhood mainstay, says. Over decades of working at the Arsenal, he’s seen the demographics of Pittsburgh shift from grizzled blue-collar steelworkers to a younger, yuppier set of tech- and medical industry workers, drawn in by the city’s burgeoning white-collar industries. “The customer base has definitely changed, and along with that, we’ve changed a little bit about what we do,” he said, saying the bar recently expanded their tap offerings to accommodate the young beer connoisseurs who want to try a new brew every visit. Watch more of Meg’s adventures in Pittsburgh’s beer scene tonight at 10 PM on VICELAND.
